Solvay 104

Solvay 104 had registration NF3072F was built in Choisy-le-Roi in 1931. The information on this page was obtained from Vagus-Vagrant.fr unless otherwise stated. We saw the boat in 2022 and 2025.

Solvay 104 was put up for sale at the end of 1985 by Solvay, when Marcel Lubrez transferred to Solvay 122. It was initially purchased in July 1986 by Mrs Annette D. from Flize (08), who renamed it Neptune II. It was resold in November 1986 and the new owners, Bernard and Martine, came to Dombasle-sur-Meurthe to visit it and decided to buy it to convert it into their main residence under the name Claire-Jeanne (their respective mothers' first names, who disapproved of their purchase!). They started the conversion work in Colmar and continued it in Plobsheim (67) on the Rhône-Rhine Canal from the summer of 1989, where it is still moored and very well maintained. A little anecdote that misled many enthusiasts: an artistic inscription on the stern of the cabin roof, "Circassian Circle," led many passersby to believe that it had changed its motto, when in fact "Circus Circle" is a fantasy by their daughter Sherley, an artist.

This is a shot taken at Bourg-au-Comin on the canal de l'Oise à l'Aisne. It is just after the junction at the bridge by the pumping station. The picture itself is taken from an information board at the junction which we don't remember seeing when we were there.

Here she is passing through Bassin-Rond near the junction of the canal de la Sensée and the canal de l'Escaut.

Leaving Euville lock on the Meuse after ascending:

These three photos were taken during the winter of 1963, in the Vanne-Alcorps channel (08), on the Meuse: the first at the beginning of the ice, then still in the same place, but with the dams lying down, it looks like it's empty, but no, it's the water that has gone down!

Solvay 104 and Solvay 123 moored at Dombasle (on the left, the Maugras saltworks, and behind the boats, the guillotine bridge, a railway drawbridge):

And in this photo, it's the same two in motion, although we only see one, number 104 ; it is being towed by number 123 in the Albert Canal:

Solvay 104 and Solvay 124 on the Belgian Meuse in flood, probably upstream of the Rivière lock:

The following is a painting of Solvay 104 found on Facebook:

Here are quite a few pictures of when she was converted to a liveaboard and moored at Plobsheim on the canal du Rhône au Rhin.  Notice that the cabin bears the name Circassian Circle, this was a name that was never registered. We saw her in April 2022 in this livery.

These next two pictures show the original 'SOLVAY 104' showing through the black paint on the bows:

The original construction plate is still in situ:

She was then painted a different colour and we saw her again in 2025:
